Rhinoplasty refers to as nose surgery, is a surgery that changes the shape of the nose. The surgery aims to change the structure and function of the nose. It is a surgical procedure for altering and reconstructing the nose. To reconstruct the nose after an accident, birth defect, failed primary rhinoplasties, and breathing problems that lead to health issues. To get back the nose to its ideal form and restore confidence in a person this surgery is done.
Types of rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is needed when a person has faced trauma and injuries. Rhinoplasty is of two different types Reconstructive surgery and Cosmetic surgery. While reconstructive surgery focuses on correcting the form and function of the nose, on the other hand, cosmetic surgery changes the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty addresses the deviated nasal septum or sinus problems in a person. Reconstructive surgery the “nose job” is done to correct the nose after trauma, accident, injuries, or birth defects. It is a low-risk surgery that allows you to resume your work only a few days after the surgery. It does not lead to any life-threatening situation.
Side effects of rhinoplasty
The side effects of rhinoplasty are:
- Difficulty in breathing through the nose
- Permanent numbness in and around the nose
- An uneven looking nose
- Pain, discoloration or swelling
- Scarring

What happens in rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty again may be divided into two types, open and closed rhinoplasty. In open and closed rhinoplasty surgeries a surgeon creates a functional and proportionate nose by separating nasal tissue from the nasal framework, altering them as required in form and function. For small changes, the surgeon may take cartilage from deeper into the nose or the ear. For larger changes, the surgeon needs cartilage from the rib, bone or other parts of your body. It is needed to suture the incision applying tissue glue or a stent to immobilize the nose. This is needed to ensure proper healing of the nose after the surgery. After the surgery, the surgeon places the tissue and the skin back in place and stitches the incision in the nose. Rhinoplasty requires local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia depending on how complex the surgery is.
Life after Surgery
After the surgery, you need to rest in your bed with your head raised higher than your chest. Your nose may be congested from the swelling, or splints placed inside your nose during surgery.
