Just as good physic, good health, and youth, hair is also very important for someone’s overall appearance. But a majority of people do not take the problem of hair loss seriously until they are fully gone. When people witness thinning up the top layer of the head or going bald, the only remaining option is Hair Transplant. But at first, a person must consult a plastic and cosmetic surgeon regarding what to expect during and after the surgery.
What is a Hair Transplant?
Hair Transplant is a surgical procedure in which professional plastic and cosmetic surgeons move hair to a bald area of the head. Usually, plastic and cosmetic surgeons prefer moving hair from the backside of the head to the front or upper portion. For that, a patient has to get admitted to a clinic or hospital to get the surgery done under local anaesthesia.
How the surgery is done?

Usually, the entire procedure is done following some steps.
- Firstly, the surgeon cleans the scalp and injects medicine to numb the back portion of the head.
Note that, there are two different methods of hair transplant surgery. One is FUSS or Follicular Unit Strip Surgery, and another one is FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction.
- The surgeon prepares the grafts, creates holes on the scalps with the help of a needle or scalper, and with the help of the expert medical team of plastic and cosmetic surgery the grafts are gently placed in the holes respectively.
The entire surgery requires almost 4 to 8 hours, depending on the size of the area where the hair transplant is done. A patient might need some other procedures later on if he/she continues to lose hair or decide to have thicker hair than before.
How long does it take to recover?
After the surgery, as the scalp remains very much tender, the patient has to remain under strict and proper medication. The surgeon suggests wearing a bandage on the scalp for at least one-two days. Antibiotic or anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed to the patient for a speedy recovery. And, near about after 2 or 3 weeks of the surgery, a person can resume his/her work and execute normal and regular activities.
After the 2-3 weeks of surgery, the transplanted hair falls out and new baby hair starts to grow just within a few months. Several survey reports show that almost more than 60% of hair growth occurs within 6-9 months after the surgery. But for that, a regular hair care routine and doctor’s prescribed hair growing oil should be followed up by the patient on a very serious note.
