Mammoplasty

A group of surgical procedures that aim towards reshaping the breast. It is done to surgically enhance or reduce the size of your breasts. It was later that it began to be used for surgical purposes. There is immense pressure on women to look good in society, sometimes to look good as per beauty standards women want to have perfect breasts. In earlier days the records show surgery was done to fit in a social group. It was in reduction or enhancement surgery. Down the line mammoplasty has become an aesthetic surgery rather than a constructive surgery

Types of mammoplasty

Mammoplasty is of two types:

Breast augmentation: It is referred to as a “boob job” by the patients. The process involves breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy. For some women, it is a way to feel more confident. It is rebuilding the breast for various reasons. Breast augmentation surgery is performed with implants that can be placed under a chest muscle or over a chest muscle. Breast augmentation involves minimum invasive procedures involving incisions. It is a relatively straight-forward procedure. Some risks are associated with this surgery like any other surgery.

Breast augmentation surgery can:

  • Increase fullness and projection of breasts
  • Improve the balance of breast and hip contours
  • Enhance self-image

The risk that are associated with the surgery are:

  • Scar tissue that distorts the shape of the breast: After the surgery scar tissue may be present that pulls down the confidence of the person. It distorts the shape of the breast that stands in the way to match the beauty standard socially.
  • Breast pain may arise in the breasts after the surgery. After the first week has passed the pain in the breasts gradually dies down.

However, in some cases, it may take longer to heal.

  • Infection in the breasts is a common problem for women who undergo this surgery. Good quality implants and lack of hygiene are the two important points to be kept in mind, these two
  • Changes in breast and nipple implants are the most important factor in the case of mammoplasty.
  • Implant leakage or rupture is a serious problem that needs to be addressed to the doctor as quickly as possible.

Breast reduction surgery is called reduction mamaplasty. It is a cosmetic surgery procedure used in reducing large or sagging breasts to a more comfortable shape and size. Large breasts are troublesome patients and lead to pain in the breasts, bad posture and inability to participate in sports. Risks associated are infection, bleeding and scarring in the breasts.

Thousands of mammoplasties are performed every year and they record good results. A study indicates 94 percent of women are happy with the results.
